Lower School Learning Specialist (Temporary Position)

Abraham Joshua Heschel School seeks a leave replacement lower school (Grades 1-5) learning specialist from August 20th until October 17th, 2025.

The ideal candidate should have the following:
Master’s degree in special education, learning disabilities, or related field
Training in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, PAF, or similar programs
Experience teaching writing using The Writing Revolution program
Experience administering a variety of assessments to track and support student growth, including Fountas & Pinnell
At least three years teaching experience as a learning specialist with a focus on attaining early literacy skills
A strong knowledge base in the area of learning differences, especially dyslexia and dysgraphia, as well as a deep knowledge base regarding ADHD

The learning specialist will:
Provide small group and one-on-one literacy remediation to students in first through fifth grade, using a pull out/push in model
Partner with teachers, families, and outside specialists regarding the needs and progress of students
Collaborate with teachers to modify curriculum and develop strategies to meet the needs of a range of learners
Prepare individual progress reports

The full-time equivalent salary range is $55,000 - $95,000, depending on years of experience.
